Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park protects the largest remaining stand of indigenous forest on Zanzibar. It is the only place on earth to see the endemic Zanzibar red colobus monkey, a charismatic primate now numbering only a few thousand.
Boardwalk trails wind through groundwater forest and mangroves, with knowledgeable guides pointing out the colobus troops, Sykes' monkeys, bushbabies and butterflies. It is an easy half-day trip from Stone Town or the east-coast beaches.
