The 7-day Lemosho Route balances acclimatisation quality, time on the mountain, and cost. Starting from the remote Londorossi Gate on Kilimanjaro's western face, the first two days pass through pristine montane forest — a genuine wilderness start with no other trekkers in sight. The Shira Plateau section is the most dramatic above-treeline walking on any Kilimanjaro route.

Seven days on Lemosho gives a better acclimatisation profile than the Machame Route at the same length — the gentler western approach means you gain altitude more gradually in the critical first three days. Summit success rates on our 7-day Lemosho climbs average 88%.

Common Questions

Frequently asked

Lemosho 7 days vs Machame 7 days — which is better?

Lemosho gives a better acclimatisation profile at the same duration because the western approach gains altitude more gradually in the first two days. Machame has more dramatic terrain at mid-mountain (specifically the Barranco Wall is more prominent on Machame's day 4). Both routes share the same path from Lava Tower onwards. For the same number of days, Lemosho is the better scientific choice; for a more dramatic route feel, Machame. The difference in price is approximately $100.
